EASY CRAFT PROJECT! ✂️ DIY Fabric Lampshade FT TERIAL MAGIC

February 2, 2018 by Jennifer Moore 1 Comment

Easy craft project using fabric from your stash – showing you how to make a DIY fabric lampshade with Terial Magic fabric stabilizer. Great handmade home decor idea – I’ve themed mine for Valentine’s Day, but you can use any fabric / shapes you want – and switch out lamp bases / lampshades to mix and match your room decor.

SUPPLIES:
Terial Magic
https://goo.gl/CpKdf9
Lampshade + Fillable Lamp Base (can use new or repurpose old ones)
Foam Mounting Tape

Conversation Hearts

Quilt Basting Spray

Cricut Cutting Machine (I have a super ancient one)

Matte Acrylic Spray

To use Terial Magic, there are three simple steps – spray, let air dry until damp, then iron. Don’t mix used and unused solution!

It’s temporary and washes out – so it’s best to use on machine washable fabrics.

Then cut lots of shapes out in various sizes, I used an older Cricut Expression, but cutting them out with scissors works just as well.

To help the fabric stick to the cutting mat, I sprayed the pieces with quilt basting spray.

Start sticking the shapes to the lampshade one by one using mounting tape – starting with larger shapes and moving to smaller shapes. The foam mounting tape gives some dimension to the layers.

For a bit more permanence, you can spray the lampshade with matte acrylic.

I got a fillable lamp base and made my lampshade DIY Valentine’s Day themed by putting conversation hearts in it. To cut down on how much candy I needed, I put an empty paper towel roll around the middle first.

Great project to help bust through your fabric stash!

Terial Magic is a unique, liquid stabilizer that is revolutionizing the fabric-arts industry. By saturating the fabric threads (unlike spray-on starch), Terial Magic turns fabric into a fray free, paper like material so that it can be manipulated in ways that were previously unavailable to fabric artists.

So crafty! And it seems very simple to make! I like the fact that you used fabrics from your stash or scrap fabrics! I think this is a very easy way to use some of that left over fabric stashed away! I hate wasting money! And I always feel like I wasted more money than saving money at the end of a sewing project! Thanks for sharing a very useful idea on how to utilize our scrap fabrics!
